What is there to say about a leaf in free fall? – Promote Yourself

It is not a comment on the

winds of change

although by buoying

restlessly alongside their

incessant lifts and eddies

may in fact create a stencil.

Let’s look closer.

It is not a metaphor for life

although the mother starling

nestled in a bough above

may loose a flightless chick

to that same plummet.

Let’s look closer.

It cannot be said that

leaves in free fall

mesmerise us with their

independence,

having neither steerable

components nor

a helm they glide on

cell walls borrowed

from an overarching deity

named Mother Earth.

We must look closer.

Oak and maple, birch,

the sycamore,

diverse configurations

of a theme that

once in free fall

spin the same yet

cannot duly represent

a racial struggle.

One step closer.

Precipitating biomatter,

nutrients ejected from

their canopy and

rained down

onto a plateau of roots

that suck back energy,

insist on growth.

That’s close enough.

What is there to say about

a leaf in free fall

that it would approve of

if you asked it?

Best wishes,

Lawrence Witt

I would like to submit a poem entitled, ‘What is there to say about a leaf in free fall?’ in the hope that it may be featured on poetreecreations. I’m seeking to promote some of my work and have seen the great things you have done for other poets on your site. I’m an avid reader and thoroughly enjoy reading the poems that have been given a place on your platform.
