  1. I have never read this poem before and I am so grateful to you. I cannot read it without knowing how the story ends. What about you? I felt the shadow of the grave hanging over me as I read every word. But is there a sense that Hughes is aware of that even as he wrote the poem? The possibility that this is true makes me shiver inside.
