Born on Pearl Harbor day, I will always remember his birthday
The year was 1947; same year It’s A Wonderful Life premiered
Three brothers and one sister, he helped care for when his father left
Hard working, dependable, his mother always fancied him for that
Handsome and athletic, he broke records in several sports:
Football, basketball, baseball, track; his speed saw him through
He surpassed all others in these things; I think the newspaper wrote a piece on him
Expert Martial artist; he trained under two masters,
one of which was the Master of Japan (Shogo Kuniba)
He made his way to black belt status- 6th degree, I believe
He was so dangerous, he had to carry a deadly weapon card in his wallet
He opened a karate school and taught others his craft;
I even met the Master of Japan when he taught at his school (what a humble man)
Well liked by his peers; joking, smiling, friendly was he (still is)
Conservative and quiet, yet talkative when need be
Kind and courteous but firm when necessary
He taught me and my brother well, disciplined us when the situation called
Taught us self-respect and to give the same to all
He died once but lived to tell about it; he was featured in the local news
He’s a botanist (he knows all about plants)
He has a love for animals and nature
He has wisdom and common sense
He keeps his emotions close to his chest
He’s a referee, he’s been a coach, he’s a dad, granddad, husband, friend
He’s my dad and he’s accomplished a lot in his life
Love,
Your daughter
Beautiful tribute 🙂

Reblogged this on Creations in Poetry & Words and commented:
This is a tribute to my dad, to let him know of the things he has accomplished in his life. At 67, there’s no reason it has to end here. I wanted to show him from my point of view, just what he’s done in his life and persevered through. I decided to publish it on Poetree Creations as well as my own blog, just so it could be read by as many people as possible. I love you Dad, you’ve done more than you can imagine in your life and it has all mattered.
