A Rose by Charles Townsend

Regrets

feather

A life is filled with things we might have done
Choices not taken that we later wish we’d picked
Other times there were things said or actions
In retrospect, our own behind we should have kicked.

Yet none of us are perfect so we do make mistakes
Too many times we overreact and have our minds set
Whether just a wrong course or feelings gets hurt
We can’t dwell, spending our days living with regret.

We must learn from the past and look to the future
Not everyone will accept that we can change course
Those are the ones that will never let go of doubt
All you can do is move on, not making things worse.

We look to ones that will accept us as we truly are
Realizing the person we are inside, offering a hand
Look through the windshield, not the rearview mirror
Find those that will, by your side, always stand.

Summer

the_four_seasons

Days start to get shorter as the seasons change

Each has what they feel is their favorite time

Whether Spring or Fall, Winter or Summer

Voicing that preference is not any real crime.

Winter has to be my least favorite season

The sun can be pretty reflecting on fresh snow

Drinking hot cocoa and cuddling, curled by a fire

But unfortunately I can’t stay in 3 months, I know.

Spring and Fall give a change that is welcome

But they don’t seem to last long enough for me

The gentle rains on the roof as you try to sleep

Just hope there is no damaging weather to see.

Summer will always be my favorite time of year

Sure it gets hot, but so much better on my bones

Lay by the pool or straddle the bike for a day trip

Not to mention bodies in all those tanning tones.

I recognize others have their reasons for a choice

Whatever season they prefer that differs from mine

Guess that us just another example of personality traits

Enjoy what you will, let me have months of sunshine

Where?

ghost womanxxxxxxxxxxxx

I woke with a start, I’m not sure why
Reaching to reassuringly touch your hair
Even that light pressure I seek to find
But as I come awake, you weren’t there.

The smile that was brought by good news
A surprise gesture coming out of thin air
I start to reach for the phone to explain
Brought back to reality, you aren’t there.

How many things have caused thoughts
That become second nature to just share
Excitement, anticipation, maybe a worry
Thinking of you, yet you just aren’t there.

The mind gives us so much to keep close
We have so many ways to show that we care
Even with changes brought beyond our control
A touch of the heart, yes you are still there.

The Flower

The flower was planted with the care it needed
The feelings were there to want it to bloom
It was cared for with the love that it deserved
Food, water, love, it was even given room.

Over time something happened that caused neglect
Whether stress or pressures, it wasn’t clear
But the weeds grew up from the lack of attention
And soon it was as if it wasn’t even there.

It was then that someone else found the flower
Seeing the beauty that should have been seen
Taking the time to care for it with such love
Knowing that is was vibrant, refreshing, when clean.

The flower finally had someone who wanted to care
Given the love and attention it could finally shine
Life is like that when we are oppressed by a ghost
Maybe someone will come along to let you know you are fine.

One Heart, One Loss, One Day

flowersxxxxxxxxx

As we journey through this uncertain life
We live, we love, we laugh, we grieve
We can hope that days will be joyously filled
But we lift our heads high and try to believe.

We are given one heart and we protect it
Not that we won’t make mistakes in trust
Broken can be mended, just don’t harden
Give freely when in love, not just for lust.

We deal with the loss of those that we love
Sad, but one of the truths we must now live
We don’t forget them but we try to move on
Knowing they would want us to still give.

We are given each day the things that we need
However, wants that we have are not always met
We make the most of the time we are given
Hoping that love and life is what we might get.

In My Mind

two loversxxxxxxxxxxx

Memories are always part of us
Whether we share them or hold on
The mind can replay when needed
Especially from dusk to dawn.

Thoughts spill forth of you still
The curve of your face and smile
Scents of a shower or your perfume
Eyes closed you linger for a while.

Soft cotton slips to the floor
Candlelight dances on your skin
Light kisses and caresses flow
Emotions heighten once again.

Two hearts beating in unison
Fingers laced as we make love
It might be just a moment now
But still fits like a glove.

Dreams might be all that’s left
Keep them safe and hold them tight
The sunrise will bring a new day
For now, there is still the night.

Hands – villanelle – Promote Yourself

woman-walking-hand-in-hand-in-studio-silhouette-isolat

Holding hands with someone special
Such electricity flowing between both
Creating memories that last much longer.

We hold hands with many as we grow
There comes a time when we have more
Holding hands with someone special.

Thoughts return to bring us even closer
Remember a touch or a smell that excites
Creating memories that last much longer.

Feelings grow and we just seem to know
When fingers lace together without thought
Holding hands with someone special.

For some it is might last only a day

Occasionally we find someone special
Creating memories that last much longer.

A lifetime can seem to be summed up
Looking back at all those moments shared
Holding hands with someone special
Creating memories that last much longer.

How Do We Read

writingxxxxxxx

When you look upon the written word
How do you read what thought was sent
It isn’t the type or print that can influence
It is our own emotion, times we spent.

For black and white, possibly color added
The pages cannot give us the intent of heart
So why do we feel the words deep within
Can we know the end, reading from the start.

As we read the words that another has shared
We feel with the thoughts that we put to word
Not like a recording where we feel their emotion
The words read give us any emotion that is stirred.

Each has a reason why we read someone’s word
And I’m thankful for those that return to read mine
If I could put my emotion clearly into each word I write
You’d understand the reason for each letter of a line.

A Rose

tea-rose-white-bud

Thoughts rush through my mind
As I stare intently at the rose
Such quiet beauty contained
With thorns waiting so close.

Clipping the bud to hold it
Careful of the delicate shape
Knowing that once picked
It’s life begins to escape.

Slowly I peel back petals
Their scent fills my nose
Laying them out flat to dry
A smile starts and grows.

I place an array of color
Arranged on your pillow
Hopeful when I find you
My love will also show.
