TOP TEN NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS FOR 2018

New Year’s Resolutions to Ring in 2017

It is that time of year again.  We start off  the new year singing “Auld Lang Syne.”  One of my all time favorite movies, “When Harry Met Sally” has clever dialogue about the song.  Harry: What does this song mean? My whole life, I don’t know what this song means. I mean, ‘Should old acquaintance be forgot’? Does that mean that we should forget old acquaintances, or does it mean if we happened to forget them, we should remember them, which is not possible because we already forgot?  Sally: Well, maybe it just means that we should remember that we forgot them or something. Anyway, it’s about old friends.

Making New Year’s Resolutions are also quite popular at the stroke of midnight.  Some will last until the next New Year’s Eve while others don’t make it a day into the new year.  Some interesting statistics… A 2007 study by Richard Wisemen from the University of Bristol involving 3,000 people showed that 88% of those who set New Year resolutions fail, despite the fact that 52% of the study’s participants were confident of success at the beginning. Men achieved their goal 22% more often when they engaged in goal setting, (a system where small measurable goals are being set; such as, a pound a week, instead of saying “lose weight”), while women succeeded 10% more when they made their goals public and got support from their friends.

Here are the 10 most popular New Year’s Resolutions:

The Upcoming New Year

jan

One year has already gone

Either you were in low or high cotton

Pause for a while before having fun

Ruminate on what you have done

Think of adversities or any abortion

Check the reasons behind misfortune

Learn from any defective action

And be aspirant and hopefully carry on

Think of success and attainment

Be grateful and never flamboyant

Look forward to a new achievement

To thrive and flourish again and again

Say: farewell bygone year

Hail the ascentsof a new year

Wish you all the best my dear

Much joy and happy New Year

New Year Wish

2015

This new year I will not be wishing for stardom, I do not even want fortune and fame;
In fact I do not want anything to change, I want my life to stay to same
..
Instead you can give my New Years wish to somebody who is feeling low;
Give it to the homeless man who has no place to go
..
Grant the wishes of the dying children in Africa, so maybe they can get to drink clean water;
You can Give my wish to their parents, so maybe this year they will not have to say goodbye to their son or daughter
..
You can take my New Years wish and give it to a child who’s daddy will never come home;
He may have died fighting for his country but he has left his baby all alone
..
Please give my wish to the person who cannot smile, sadness is now their only expression;
Please give my New Years wish to the war widow before she sinks deeper into depression
..
So please do not waste a wish on me when there are still children crying their hunger pain;
There is nothing In my life I need to change, I just want everything to stay the same
..

The passing of the year

claesz-25

My glass is filled, my pipe is lit,
     My den is all a cosy glow;
And snug before the fire I sit,
     And wait to feel the old year go.
I dedicate to solemn thought
     Amid my too-unthinking days,
This sober moment, sadly fraught
     With much of blame, with little praise.

Old Year! upon the Stage of Time
     You stand to bow your last adieu;
A moment, and the prompter’s chime
     Will ring the curtain down on you.
Your mien is sad, your step is slow;
     You falter as a Sage in pain;
Yet turn, Old Year, before you go,
     And face your audience again.

That sphinx-like face, remote, austere,
     Let us all read, whate’er the cost:
O Maiden! why that bitter tear?
     Is it for dear one you have lost?
Is it for fond illusion gone?
     For trusted lover proved untrue?
O sweet girl-face, so sad, so wan
     What hath the Old Year meant to you?

And you, O neighbour on my right
     So sleek, so prosperously clad!
What see you in that aged wight
     That makes your smile so gay and glad?
What opportunity unmissed?
     What golden gain, what pride of place?
What splendid hope? O Optimist!
     What read you in that withered face?

And You, deep shrinking in the gloom,
     What find you in that filmy gaze?
What menace of a tragic doom?
     What dark, condemning yesterdays?
What urge to crime, what evil done?
     What cold, confronting shape of fear?
O haggard, haunted, hidden One
     What see you in the dying year?

And so from face to face I flit,
     The countless eyes that stare and stare;
Some are with approbation lit,
     And some are shadowed with despair.
Some show a smile and some a frown;
     Some joy and hope, some pain and woe:
Enough! Oh, ring the curtain down!
     Old weary year! it’s time to go.

My pipe is out, my glass is dry;
     My fire is almost ashes too;
But once again, before you go,
     And I prepare to meet the New:
Old Year! a parting word that’s true,
     For we’ve been comrades, you and I —
I thank God for each day of you;
     There! bless you now! Old Year, good-bye!

Ghosts Of The Old Year

yuk

The snow has ceased its fluttering flight,
The wind sunk to a whisper light,
An ominous stillness fills the night,
A pause — a hush.
At last, a sound that breaks the spell,
Loud, clanging mouthings of a bell,
That through the silence peal and swell,
And roll, and rush.

What does this brazen tongue declare,
That falling on the midnight air
Brings to my heart a sense of care
Akin to fright?
‘Tis telling that the year is dead,
The New Year come, the Old Year fled,
Another leaf before me spread
On which to write.

It tells the deeds that were not done,
It tells of races never run,
Of victories that were not won,
Barriers unleaped.
It tells of many a squandered day,
Of slighted gems and treasured clay,
Of precious stores not laid away,
Of fields unreaped.

And so the years go swiftly by,
Each, coming, brings ambitions high,
And each, departing, leaves a sigh
Linked to the past.
Large resolutions, little deeds;
Thus, filled with aims unreached, life speeds
Until the blotted record reads,
‘Failure!’ at last.

New Year

lob A new year to look forward to

What surprises will it bring?

All that you wish for

I hope you receive everything

I would like to see peace

Spread through out the land

To understand other cultures

So all will walk hand in hand

To see that hunger and starvation

Disappear from the face of the earth

A greater understanding is needed

For vision of this new birth

I hope that the scourge of disease

That famine and decay

Will no longer be a problem

And will disappear one day

These things I am sure you wish for

And maybe in our time we shall see

A step forward in thinking

That will benefit you and me

Have I got the January blues?

Have I got the January blues?

I want to shop and buy some shoes

I’ll go down to the January sales

Somehow it never fails,

I can beat the January blues

I will buy my brand new shoes

Red, blue, black or white,

I know what I have in sight

The January sales here I come,

No January blues

I have my new shoes

You have not won

The January blues,

The tinsel and the sparkle has gone

But I can’t go wrong

In the January sales,

Somehow it never fails

I have beat the January blues

I have bought my brand new shoes

Leftovers – YOUR FAVOURITE POEM

leftovers

Thanksgiving has been over
for at least a week or two,
but we’re all still eating turkey,
turkey salad, turkey stew,turkey puffs and turkey pudding,
turkey patties, turkey pies,
turkey bisque and turkey burgers,
turkey fritters, turkey fries.

For lunch, our mother made us
turkey slices on a stick,
there’ll be turkey tarts for supper,
all this turkey makes me sick.

For tomorrow she’s preparing
turkey dumplings stuffed with peas,
oh I never thought I’d say this —
“Mother! No more turkey… PLEASE!”

NEW YEAR’S EVE RESOLUTIONS – Promte Yourself

nic

I will spend New Year’s Eve
awake;
I will not eat anything sweet, like leftover Christmas
cake;
I will not watch “When Harry Met Sally” because I’ll have a
date;
I will smile when I hear revelers as they stay up
late;
I will not go to parties which I know are a
waste;
I will toast the New Year with champagne, a kiss and “Come What
May;”
I will treasure each moment of the
day;
I will wish only peace for those unable to
celebrate,
And toast the future with my love, my soul
mate.

London firework display 2012

Is it the end ?

The clock strikes twelve the end has come

The beer, the lager, and the whisky has gone

But it is not the end

But a new beginning

The start of a brand new year

For everyone,

2012 and the world’s having fun

A year for all new things to be done

A new job, to earn a few bob,

New seeds to sow, then see them grow

Is something we did a year ago

So happy new year to everyone

Because a new year just begun

In the new year

9-new-year-greetings-2013

I have many targets to reach

I have many important people to see

In the new year,

There is no time for tears

I have no time for fear

In the new year,

I have to develop my projects

A higher standard I will expect

In the new year,

I have twelve months

To reach my goals

No time for tears

Or negative souls,

I have the positive energy

and the optimism to see

Clearer for 2012

No excuses, saying I will shelve

Projects when there is no need,

Yes this year the air

Will be clearer to breathe,

This year I will not wear

My rose tinted glasses to see

New beginnings

New beginnings
Ever more smiles
Well being
Yesterdays past,

Tomorrows beginning
Excitement and cheer
Amongst family and friends,
Remembering the memories

We all share

The beginning of the new year
Is the time to reflect,

To make things clear
Twelve months have past

Just so quick

Like a camera flash
No time to dwell

A time to live and be well,
A new start for many

An end to all the worries
2012 is the new beginning,

A fresh start and an happy ending

Happy new year

Come what may

New year – new year

I think I will make one

A new year’s resolution

This year

Stop smoking

Be nice to the wife

Make life better each day

Come what may

Be good, be true

Be sincere to everyone

You can make a promise

But can you keep it?

Tell me more,

I have 3 or 4 Ideas

In my head

But can I keep them all?

I kept one last year

For only day

But I will try again

This year,

Come what may

I promise to be good

Not bad

I will be happy

Not sad

So this new year

I will be good

I will stop doing

This and that

With no chit – chat

I will try to keep

My new years resolution

This year

Come what may.
